Hurtworld

A dead game that may have been a Rust wanna-be.

Hurtworld is a dead game.  At the time of writing there were 43 active players, with an 7 day high of just over 200.  It's a cartoony rust wanna-be.  It's a forgettable game with no guidance and very, very few players.

When you first boot into the game you'll see the server list.  When I played there were a total of 8 servers, many of which are empty with a player count of 0.  Unless you're playing with a group who knows how this game works, playing solo will be a difficult time.

Overall Map

Once you choose the server you can choose the general region to spawn into.  On the map it'll show you major points of interest, such as guild bases or map events.  You can also see major builds or edifices, such as trade areas or a crashed freighter ship or an abandoned shopping center.  You will also see any bases you've put down.

Once you want to join you will need to create your character.  The character creator is a generic tool.

Getting Started

Once you're in the game you'll explore and take everything you can with you.  You'll have some things you can craft in your inventory with the basic item you pick up, as shown below.  Finding / harvesting the basic materials can be confusing unless you know what you're for.  There's no guidance with how to move forward with progression.

Eventually when you can progress deeper into the game you can unlock new crafting benches and new items.  There are trading hubs where you can find high tier crafting tables to see end game content.

Crafting
Work benches

The image above shows more advance crafting versus the more simple / backpack crafting.  In these types of games you get more complicated items and materials and crafting tables the further into the game you survive.

As you explore you'll find lootable crates and boxes.  You may even find decaying bases with exposed loot boxes.  As there weren't many people playing when I was active it was difficult to find anything beyond the basics.

Looting

Beyond the aforementioned items, you also need to manage clothing, food, health, and temperature.  There are hyper hostile creatures that will kill you very quickly if you find them early on.  You may also find abandoned troll builds that will show people writing in the sky with blocks, as well as massive buildings or compounds.  Temperature is a ruthless killer as you can't get far in the hot or cold zones without dying of exposure.

Another major threat are the few active players.  I found myself being hunted by a single player time and time again on a low population server, which made surviving very difficult.  Holding onto any amount of material is an uphill battle in this game.

In the end this is a dead game with very few players.  The low population servers, lack of any guidance in game, the harsh and unforgiving gameplay, or the brutal pvp scenario with very lacking materials makes this a hard pass.  Even if this game were free it's not worth the time, effort, cost, or disk space.

Score 1 out of 10

Hard gameplay with no guidance

Few servers and most are basically empty.

The visuals are cartoon-y and pixelated, nothing special.

The basic movement controls are easy but anything else beyond is a steep learning curve.

This is an extremely forgettable game, absolutely nothing special to remember.
