Ghostrunner 2

Slice through shadows, unleash speed!

Game Review: Ghostrunner 2

An avid gamer and a fan of adrenaline-based action titles, I just could not stay away from Ghostrunner 2. Having had a blast with its unthinkable parkour and meaty combat mechanics from its predecessor, I had built up quite an expectation. I am excited to share my thoughts; grab your katana and let us get to it! 🥷⚔️

Visuals: 9/10 🌌

Probably the very first moment that left me dumbfounded by the spectacular visuals of Ghostrunner 2 was its vivid neon flair and cyberpunk ambience, set in an immersive atmosphere. Gorgeous level design was provided by each environment, populated by extremely detailed scenery and dynamic lighting that impart life to the world. And, oh my, the sleek and futuristic character designs, especially of the protagonist, will mesmerize you even more.

Gameplay: 8/10 🎮

This is exactly where Ghostrunner 2 flexes its real might: within the battle mechanics of the game. The parkour mechanics feel fluid and satisfying to perform; they provide effortless traversal really through the lavishly crafted environments. Each level feels like an exhilarating obstacle course rife with timing and precision. Combat feels quite fast and intense, rewarding quick actions and strategic thinking. That said, some of the encounter designs started to feel a bit repetitive for me after some time, which is why I did not give this part a full ten.

Story: 7/10 📖

This narrative is a continuation of the first game, fleshing out and expanding lore concerning what happens with the protagonist and that world. While some appealing concepts such as survival and rebellion were mentioned in the plot, I found that emotional depth was somewhat lacking to fully touch on my heart. Character development was all right, but it just did not seem to grab me the way I wanted it to. But it does serve as a decent background for the whole action.

Sound: 8/10 🎶

The soundtrack is an absolute blast!! It synchronizes perfectly with high-octane action presented in the game, with the electronic beat pumping adrenaline right into my veins and heightening immersion. Meanwhile, weapon effects, parkour sounds, and even the SFX of enemy encounters are tight and punchy. While I enjoyed the aural experience, some voices seemed to have been a little flat; it lacked that bit of diversity and personality.

Replayability: 8/10 ♻️

The level layouts were quite challenging with optional objectives, encouraging excessive replayability in Ghostrunner 2. Different pathing provided me opportunities to execute various strategies and find some hidden secrets. Speedrun leaderboard contribution kept me coming back to trying to beat my times or compete against friends.

Final Thoughts

In all, Ghostrunner 2 is an exciting sequel that expands on its predecessor: exhilarating action, great graphics, and fun gameplay. While it does not have a very deep narrative or particularly original mechanics, it does make up for all that with adrenaline-pounding action and breathtaking visuals. 🌟

If you liked the first Ghostrunner and you're into fast-paced platforming games, you're definitely going to want to check this one out! But keep those reflexes sharp and katana ready!
