Garfield Kart

A Lazy Sunday Drive or a Cat-astrophic Crash?

Gameplay – 6.5/10

On the Garfield Kart, you have Garfield and his friends racing against each other in the familiar Mario Kart setup, except with certain Garfield twists. Players can race on a variety of tracks against their opponents, using power-ups, drifting mechanics, and shortcuts.

The controls are simple; however, the controls tend to feel a bit floaty and unresponsive, in all such a way as to prevent delicate turning. Even with the varying levels of challenge the AI presents, it feels mostly unpredictable-it can be all, either ridiculously easy or just far too fast. The power-ups, featuring pies and other such gluttonous Garfield-inspired items, inject some comical fun into the game; however, they are not very original and under-neat chore as compared to the power-ups of established kart racing titles.

The multiplayer aspect finds itself limited, as the game, with no online play, hardly provides any competitive replay value against other racing games.

Graphics & Art Style – 6/10

The game’s visuals are bright, colorful, and cartoony, which suits Garfield’s world, but the track designs are basic, and the character models look a little stiff. While functional and charming in a simple way, the lack of polish and detail makes the game feel dated compared to other kart racers.

Sound & Music – 6/10

The music is generic and forgettable, lacking the catchy energy expected in a racing game. Sound effects, like drifting and item usage, do their job but lack impact. Unfortunately, there's no voice acting, meaning Garfield doesn’t deliver his signature sarcastic remarks, which feels like a missed opportunity.

Story & Atmosphere – 6.5/10

There’s no real story, just a series of races featuring Garfield, Jon, Odie, and other familiar characters. The Garfield charm is present, but it doesn’t go beyond the surface, making it feel like a standard kart racer with Garfield’s face slapped on it rather than a game fully embracing the humor and world of the comics.

Replayability – 7/10

There's not enough replay value offered by the game which has multiple cups, unlockable characters, and vehicles. Without online multiplayer and deep customizations, the fun only lasts so long since the tracks offer little variety and surprises. Still, it makes for a casual local multiplayer game to be enjoyed with some friends.

Final Verdict – 6.5/10

Garfield Kart is really an amusing kart racing game although not without blemish. Mainly hinging upon the power of Garfield, this game simply lacks innovation in gameplay. It caters to fans of Garfield or those that enjoy casual play, but unfortunately, the fundamental mechanics were not very well thought out, it lacks the polish that one would expect of something in the same genre, and there's absolutely no chance of being able to play online.

If you are fond of Garfield and would like a quick smile while racing, this is the one for you-not for Mario Kart or Crash Team Racing, though.
