Star Story: The Horizon Escape

Space adventure and I have a AI robot girlfriend? Sign me in.

Start Story. Interesting one with gameplay similar to Organ Trail and Orion Trail. I’ve played it for a bit over an hour and got 1 ending and I liked this game, not the ending though, the ending I got was a sad one.

In the far future where humanity already explored the major part of the universe you are an agent of a space archeological society named Van Klik. You are sent to the Dark Nebula find an ancient artifact that holds knowledge that humanity accumulated through god knows how long. Then we awake after a long sleep in the stasis pod and our AI ship system Verdana helps us to recover our memories since we are really close to our target. On the way there we also encounter an old broken ship that we rummaged through and found a couple of things with 1 particular being a big yellow coin-shaped unknown artifact. That artifact made our ship crash on some unknown planet but it is okay since apparently it is our destination.

But I guess it is only one of the outcomes since we can make choices which can lead to a whole other path. That Organ/Orion Trail part. We move a little bit and then we are presented with an event and a couple of options to pick from. What else do we have? We have 3 main characteristics: Resolve, Insight, Goodwill. We can increase those stats we pick with an appropriate option from a list of choices. Though sometimes we do not see which option leads to which +stat and we have to figure out it from the description of an option. Brute forcing your way through everything? Plus resolve to your stats. Using variety of our devices and scientific method? Plus insight. And goodwill is when we try to be friendly and speak our way out of trouble.

Exploration

Sometimes we would also need to fight our way, be it a bunch of bandits or an old barely functioning droid.  We always have our trusty fist to punch and other weapons such as grenades, phasers, cattle prods, portable personal shield generator and medical supplies. But only our fist doesn’t need to have a cooldown or charges. How do we recharge our weapons and make more grenades and shields? We find a temporary base of operations. There we can craft stuff, salvage resources and improve our craft station and also there is a capsule open station but I haven’t found a capsule so far. Anyway to increase our list of recipes we need to have our 3 main stats. First, recipes available when we have fine in three of our main characteristics. Goodwill allows you to craft medical supplies. Insight for handy devices (lock picks translators, rocket boots). Resolve for weapons and grenades. So whenever you are presented with an option to beam down back to your base you’ll bring all the scrap you scrounged and you also heal your wounds.

Option and choices

Anyway I’ll tell how my first run went after we crashed. I’ve decided to find where my ship crashed (since we jumped out in the escape pod). We traveled around till we found some alien girl. She was busy with her own stuff but she’s kind enough to escort us out. That was till she asked us to help her to rid this planet of VAS influence which started to corrupt the planet’s biomes. I agreed and we went on. Then I found another artifact that I knifed out of the ground… shouldn’t have done it. Or at least should’ve given in into his corruption.  We went on as Van Klik started to feel worse and worse. The influence of the dark artifact started to get a hold of our sanity gripping on it harder and harder with each passing minute. Several times it asked me to give up but I refused. We reached our destination. By the way we did find some claiming to be the database of human knowledge that we were supposed to find in the first place. But I think it was a decoy of the dark artifact. Anyway alien girl said that she’s going to contact her comrades only to find out there is nobody left and the dark artifact reached his full power, broke out and manifested itself. We were left to whither in that sanctuary for the rest of eternity. After that Van Klik was sent back in time right before he landed on this planet in his escape pod. So guess we have a quick restart. And it was only one of around twenty endings. Definitely recommend it.
