Crazy Taxi. Hey, hey come on over, have some fun with crazy taxi YEAH! YEAH! YEAH! YEAH! YEAH! You won’t hear this song in the Steam version like most Offspring and Bad Religion songs. Why is that? Cause copyright is a female dog. Anyway what’s Crazy Taxi? Arcade game from early 2000 ported to many other platforms. It is also a very good source of nostalgia for people around the world but mainly USA and maybe Canada.
Does it have a plot? *cue in Danny Devito nervously shaking his head* I mean apart from money making there is no plot. Pick up from four cab drivers: Axel – Roronoa Zoro looking punk, B.D Joe – Cheerful and always smiling dude wearing bucket hat and baggy shorts, Gena – cars obsessed chick, Gus – sleazy middle aged man. Now go and earn money, that’s it.
Well that’s a taxi job how hard could it be? When there are two modes: arcade and original. You can either play by arcade rules or set an amount of time for your shift, from three to ten minutes. Next is looking for customers. They are marked by a colored marker. There are green, yellow, orange and red markers. Green has the biggest “pick up” range and further destination to drive to. Red is the exact opposite of green. So you pick up a customer, now your UI will show the destination, get there as fast as you can while performing tricks and not colliding with traffic. Done? Pick up another and continue till you run out of time or don’t if you play by arcade rules. Well there is also challenge mode but I did not try out. I don’t think I can pull off any crazy tricks apart from near misses.
Personally I dislike racing games and genre. There are a handful of racing games that I can count on fingers of both of my hands that I actually like and Crazy Taxi is one of them. Mind that this is the first time I‘ve played it. I’m sure my experience would be even better if it had the OG OST but that can be modded in if I care enough. The only thing I did not like about this game is that I had to manually press the reverse button and not just WASD like in any GTA game. And since it is Sega’s game, not only did it get blocked by region restriction it also got delisted along with all of the old Genesis and Dreamcast games. In our country we call SEGA lemme censor it “company of bundle of sticks” and SEGA doing its best to outshite the Nintendo company in the “Who soils their britches the hardest” competition. What in God’s name happened to those two companies…. YEAH! YEAH! YEAH !YEAH! YEAH!
