Aurion: Legacy of the Kori Odan. This one is action rpg. Apparently it was made by indie studio from Cameroon so everybody praise it like it is second coming of Christ, Happy Easter by the way. But so far I did not like it one bit. First of all theme is Africa which is fine when I watch educational programs about wild life in it. But the story (meh) character design (since it is Africa everyone looks like macaw parrot), music (guess this ok) those I didn’t like. But not as much as combat system and tutorial.

But first thing first. Let’s with the plot. We play as prince Enzo. It is ceremonial day where prince Enzo is crowned to be prince of Wakanda sorry it is not Wakanda but I forgot and don’t care enough to look it up so it’ll be Wakanda. So prince Enzo got the jitters and decides to walk around and talk with his subjects so he may calm down before ceremony… did I mention it is also marriage ceremony? Prince supposed to marry princess from another Wakanda. Whatever, so we walk around a bit learn about tradition and lore of this tribe z-z-z-z-z. And when we are done we finally find courage to enter the palace. The ceremony starts and wife’ dad is not pleased with it. But as all ceremonies in rpg genre this one got interrupted too. Our village is attacked by a pack of midgets wearing rat themed gear… I shit you not. Those rat bandits been doing for a long while and prince didn’t kill them only because he likes to beat them up. And we done with rat tribe we attack by another tribe, but this one is more serious since they have warriors of adult male size with spears. While our kang fights in the front enemy ambushes the palace. Screaming “WAKANDA FOREVER!” Enzo runs back to defend his home, his subjects and his future wife. Looks like we are attack by the same tribe as our wife. It is even lead by Rhino who is our wife’s brother. Dunno what happened next since I got so fed up with the battle system that I quite. And I didn’t make any saves so all the progress I had is gone... whatever.

Gameplay. We are walking around in 2D environment with beat’em up side view and we can walk up and down. But when we fight we can only move in 2 directions. Okay now I’ll explain why I got fed up with it so quickly. First: It was made for console so all prompts and hints show Xbox360 buttons. Secondly it is very awkward trying to make comfortable bindings for D-pad and stick. And you need both of them during a fight. D-pad for consumables use and stick for running and dodging. For dodging you also need to hold another button while pressing a direction. And it just doesn’t register on a keyboard. So I’m already gimped in that regard. There are also two sets of special attacks magic and shit that called “aurion”. For them you need also to hold button and press directions. So it’s clusterfuck on a keyboard trying to play this piano of a layout. So during the first boss fight where I couldn’t do much. Because I couldn’t figure out how to charge aurion and use it. I was also supposed to use another button combination to command my wife to heal me but I couldn’t figure out this too. And without aurion techs you do jackshit against the boss. Also jumps are very awkward in this game you float around like it’s old Chinese kung-fu movie. So that’s where I quit.

So that’s about it. The “passion project of 12 years” did not stick with me and I was disappointed. At least the price is low that’s good I guess. You want good African video game? Play games by Magic Dweedo (or whatever his) name and for African music I’d recommend Tshe Tsha boys. Skip it, unless you have a Xbox pad and interested in the overcomplicated battle system. I may give this game another try since I also want the cards from this game but the first impression is ruined and first impression is most important in this world.
